Hi Folks,

I'm new to this and have a few questions concerning tweaking and reducing footprints on the templates. I understand why reducing footprints is necessary, however, I don't know exactly what footprints are, so first off, what are footprints? Second, how do I go about tweaking the templates so as to make them unique? I have read through the articles and watched the tutorials but am still unclear about all this.

Any detailed explanations and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Well.. that is the main issue What is a footprint and what are the footprints in a BS template?

Many people hear these words, footprints, fingerprints, but very few know what they are, though many still ask "how do i reduce the footprints in BS templates?".

The answer to what footprints are is simple. Basicly they are pieces of text or codes that repeat in the same form over more pages in same or different domains.

For example, some scripts always put in the footer of sites that use it a text like "Powered by X script" or "Copyright X company. All rights reserved". The longer that text is, and the more exact is repeated, the easier to spot.

Now.. What are the footprints in BS templates and how to get ride of it? Well.. is not as simple to answer. The templates in my opinion does not have any obvious footprints. That would be somehting like "This site was made with BS" or some similar repeating text.

However, there are some other kind of footprints that people never think about. Like affiliate links or adsense/ypn codes. People concern about BS templates possible footprints but never think that adsense code is the biggest of all footprints. Imagine how simple would be for google to find all sites that have some Y pub-id. Or see that all pages have links like "mysponsor.com?affid=123". Logically, the aff links and adsense code of a person is used only on that person websites, as nobody would be stupid to put your codes in his pages and make money for you.

So, i would worry more for adsense code of beeing a footprint then a BS template itself.

As about how to edit and tweak templates, i posted about that with seeral ocassions. We do not have a tutprial for that, ebcause template edit/creation is purely a matter of html/css editing. Is nothing more special then edit some normal html page. And as html/css editing can get many forms, use lot of software, etc, would be hard for us to cover all that. And a bit out of our scope.

I would be VERY careful about using that thing. That is basically IP cloaking and you can be banned or penalised at any time.
