I'm pretty familiar with html but I can't generate a site without losing the formatting and background images, even for the default projects included in the download. (And I did copy the img folder into the folder with all the files)

Everything's left justified too.

I can pull up the template index page with dreamweaver and the formatting and images are there and looking fine, but it's just a mess after I hit that generate button.

Guess I'll have to build my own templates.

You don't have to build own templates. Just make sure your paths are all correct, and that is made by copying the css or image files from the template folder (from the respective template number that you used) in the same folder where you generated or uploaded your site.
