Here is an example some1 just posted though your may be a bit different.

Fatal error: Unable to read 16444 bytes in /home/bowisdom/public_html/store/index.php on line 0

Some part of answer is copied from another thread, but i have lot of work to do and still wanted to make sure is specified here too.

Make absolutely sure your ftp client uses Binary mode.

Not uploading in Binary mode is the only reason for this error in my last 3 years since installing BS, CS and SST now

We are all humans and do mistakes, i have few users that where absolutely 1000% sure they uploaded in binary mode.. and they didn't.. Just double check that your ftp is forced ot use Binary mode

I got the same error message.  I used dreamweaver and changed the FTpExtensionMap from php ascii to php binary and saved the text file and closed dw and reopened it.. then I followed the directions.. any other reasons.. I viewed the .htaccess file and it was empty.. is that how its suppose to be?

htaccess is empty and need to be chmoded to 777, so sst can write the rules inside upon install.

I did upload in binary and received the error message, what is the next step?  maybe all versions of php..php3, php4.php5 be changed to binary?
I just deleted the site and uploaded again after changing all php..php3 to binary..

I made sure (in fact I deleted and installed on two different FTP programs) I was in binary and I'm still getting this error :

I'm with Third Sphere Hosting and they say they have zend.

I am using smartftp and 3 options are provided..autoselect, binary100%, ascii100% but it goes on to say if using non window servers binary is default for autoselect...I selected binary100% and 8 files are hung up and not uploading...

I haven't used smartftp, i used cuteftp, flashfxp and few others, and they all worked. When i say binary, i mean pure binary, not auto.

Try search the net for that error and you will always see similar answer

This error is caused by file corruption during the uploading process.

It is very important that all files be uploaded in binary format only, meaning that your FTP client cannot be set to automatically detect the appropriate upload type. The reason for this is that the files are encoded (for Zend or Ioncube), and are therefore comprised of binary data even though their file extension (.php) would seem to indicate that they are plain text.

Reuploading the files in binary mode should correct the problem.

I uploaded all the files except. htaccess as skipped during the upload..all other file were uploaded quickly using cuteftp

FYI - for those who have been struggling with fatal errors and blank pages:

I tried EIGHT free FTP software packages, and finally got LeechFTP to work and send clean binary files, with no fatal errors and no blank pages. Have not modified the store yet, but it looks like I may finally have a clean upload that works.

I have used CuteFTP, FlashFXP, and LeechFTP -- all FTP clients were set for binary upload -- and I still get :

I have tried lots and lots of times.  Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Would someone be willing to upload it for me?

I've used several FTP software packages and had the same problem until I used FTP Commander. This software is not fancy but it works. Just make sure you change the transfer type to binary in the menu Connections - Transfer Type.

Hi Omar,

After trying all those tips, I am still getting that error message. After talking to my hosting company, i found out that due to the fact that my server is a shared server, they do not allow 777 folder/file permission. They say that I should rather use 755. Could you tell me is there is any incompatibility in having a shared server, or it really doesn't matter ?
