Title: Blank pages after upload OR when try to access admin area
Post by: Omar on April 03, 2008, 09:33
Hi

I make this a sticky as more people reported that. It is usually not a bug, but some upload errors.

If you experience such blank pages:

1. Reupload all files again or try have a look in the folders from ftp and ones from your computer. Some files may just been skipped.

2. Make absolutely sure your ftp client uses Binary mode.

Sometime when not upload in binary mode you see a Fatal Error:.... but sometime it is just a blank page. We are all humans and do mistakes, i have few users that where absolutely 1000% sure they uploaded in binary mode.. and they didn't.. Just double check that your ftp is forced ot use Binary mode

And always make sure you download the latest zip (unless you did that shortly before your instal try). There may be other bugs fixes or addons since your download (if, as i said is a bit older)

3. If none of that works, shoot me an email with your domain and ftp info ;)

April 5th Edit: There is one more reason for the blank page that we nailed today.

There was a bug that was causing this when you had a $ sign or other non-letters or numbers in the mysql password. That bug was fixed in the new installer already on server, but already instaleld ones will need to be manually solved or reinstalled.

The reasons may not be always inside SST, i just had similar issue today that turned out to be Zend Optimizer wrong configuration. There are so many things outside sst that cause issues..

That is why I suggest anyone with such issues to email or PM me with ftp access if no fixes posted here do the trick.

Title: Blank pages
Post by: didley35 on April 05, 2008, 00:00
I give up. I have followed the videos. Uploaded from my pc. uploaded the zip file to the created folder. overwritten files. deleted and created new folder and uploaded again. I can get to the part where I'm supposed to login to my store for setup and no matter what I get a blank page. I can't login to the store nor view the site. Yes, I created a DB. Maybe this product should be re-named Store Slacker because right now the only thing it stacks is dust. Any help here?

Thanks,

Brad

I had one working but since uploading the latest ebay plugin I was back to a white screen.

On another site I have the same situation.  Google's bots must be blowing fuses with white pages all over the net!

What really annoys me is that nonsense on the sales page "...and from start to finish, it probably took me 4 minutes to create a store that carried about 3000 products."  Get real, it takes more than that to upload the files. A few more minutes creating a database - all this before you start doing the site set up and preferences etc.

My estimate is that if nothing goes wrong you will need at least half an hour - possibly a lot more.  Of course I can only make estimates as I have been unable to get beyond filling in the database info and clicking login.

Even a couple of hours would not be unreasonable for a set up time, so please get rid of this rubbish about 4 minutes.  It's misleading people.

Meanwhile I still have store that could be selling a white cat in a snowfield!

This is particularly annoying for those of us in the UK as there is an inevitable time lag before we get our responses to queries.  Of course, I appreciate that cannot be helped.

Ray

PS.

1.  I did upload in binary mode using WS_FTP PRO.

2.  I chmoded as instructions.

3.  I built a database, created a user and added the user.

Ray

See the edit of the first post.

As about misleading info, i guess Brian refered to "store setup" as set it up after install, not including the upload. If one has dial up connection upload may take half an hour alone.. so i don't think it counts as part of the actual store setup. If you just want a soimple store with some 5 categories and not much of customization, that can be done quite fast. A real nice shop though will probably take more, maybe some will work days untill will be happy with the result.. is all about the goal...

I'm getting a blank page following uploading with FTP (using latest package as of today)

Changed the permissions of Commons folder, and htaccess...

however when I open the htaccess file in notepad...the file is blank?

Could this be why people are having problems?

I had trouble with blank problems no matter what I did with the ftp software...

so I decided to do the upload via cPanel and it worked without any problems

food for thought to those having problems!

I have been trying to get this running on a subdomain to get a feel for it but also have installed a number of times in binary with different ftp software and still get the blank page.  I get as far as typing in password to set up store then all blank.

Title: White Page Problem!
Post by: grannypro on April 15, 2008, 03:22
I had it all working just fine until I came to the part about eBay and CJ, so I downloaded the new SSupdate and now all I get is a white page!  I can access the Cpanel, but nothing else.  I uploaded my files on Hostgaters Cpanel file mgr, they told me that it is in Binary mode and not to chmod the files to 777 but leave them at 755.  So many contradictions, I am quickly getting discouraged.  :( :(  Perhaps it would be best to delete all the files and start over as I had not entered any data into the store and was still in set-up mode.  Sure would like to get this working!

Not sure what exactly happened, probably some files where corrupted on update upload or not been uploaded binary. Send me ftp access and i will take a look.

Went out of town for awhile before I was able to solve my problem, now am back and trying to start again.  Completed the upload but when I go to access the website I get this message:

Fatal error: Unable to read 16352 bytes in /home/granny/public_html/index.php on line 0

How do I send you access to my Cpanel by email not through this forum?

Title: 404 Error page
Post by: flashdiva on May 11, 2008, 04:28
A blank page is one thing. I'm getting:

404 - Not Found
The page was not found on the domain

Again... all uploaded per instructions. CHMOD'd correctly. Reuploaded from within the files, with Binary. Using FileZilla, which is awesome.

You know? I have several BANS stores running. They indeed went up with very little trouble or confusion.

I am so discouraged tonight, there are no words for it.

These scripts need to work.

===

new note: However... the 404 Error page does indeed show the TITLE: {blog-title}

I have put this on the same domain with BlogSolution, in folder called "store" as shown in the SS video. Interesting. If this indicates that somehow you cannot put a SS on the same domain as BS.... then HOW are these to be "integrated," as you indicate ALL your products are?

Another new note...... When I installed BS on this domain, 48 hours ago, I was getting the EXACT same 404 Error page. I gave up on it (BS). Just now, in going to the 'home page' of the domain... the BS template is now showing. What the hell is going on?

You should first read carefully all the articles in the knowledgebase. They are made with a reason.

http://halfagain.com/knowledgebase/users/kb.php?id=10022&category_id=1&sid2=

That explain why you can not have something else on a BS domain withough making some changes first (to BS htaccess), and what those changes should be.

You would had same issues with BANS too or anything else if trying to put them on same domain with a BS.

Title: Complete manuals are needed
Post by: flashdiva on May 12, 2008, 18:02
Hello Omar... I indeed have spent many days now, reading most of these forums. And I did see your referenced page, per the .htaccess. However, you and your team know your software inside out, and also the forums and what they contain above and beyond the manuals and videos. We, out here, are new to the scripts. The Search for the forums is not helpful. It brings up what appear to be, totally unrelated postings. Once I'd gotten further with my researching and working the scripts, I remembered the .htaccess posting, but could not find it again.

It has been stated that all these products work in tandem.

The isolated bits of very important information in the forums need to be put with an expanded version of the help docs. Both PDF and video updates.

For BS to REALLY integrate with the other scripts.... you need to have an updated set of Help that will walk the user through all of that. It will cut down the grief out here, and ultimately make your job easier. When people have a real 'blueprint' to follow, they won't have to come to the forums, hoping to find a solution.

And this, with BS integrating with the other scripts, is the CORE of this suite of tools... That all of the suite really does work together. In my HO, a really workable all-in-one user guide, is needed.

The deaded white page strikes again...... this time on a working site after the latest update was carried out to the letter ( binary )

If this site wasn't indexed I wouldn't care so much but after only a few short weeks it's.
#1 in Google for the domain keywords in quotes and
#13 without quotes with 2,630,000 competing sites.

So SS does work really well when used with a good Keyword Rich Domain :D

Now if Omar can just get this site back online before Google notices it's offline I'll be a Happy Camper.

Email sent Omar with login details... hope you can fix this issue quickly for me.

Thanks,

St.

Great Job Omar, thanks for the quick fix.

I actually downloaded the zip file twice to make sure all files were included then when the initial upload didn't work I checked everything out watched the video yet again and uploaded again....... all in all I uploaded the files 3 times but still couldn't get it to work.

I'm just glad you were able to sort it out for me.

Great support as always :D

Thanks,

St.

I have tried with CPanel, CoreFTP and now FileZilla (which lets you specify the format which you upload with).

I get blank pages or "Internet Explorer cannot display this page".

Maybe the instructions need to be expanded?

Does it work with the .htaccess file and just the common folder chmodded to 777 or its contents as well?

Or, as one poster was told, should we leave these alone?

There seems to be a problem unique to this package.

I would appreciate help but I can't see the point to having someone else upload the files which I can see are in place?

John

Title: White / Blank Page Problem with Update
Post by: Dexx on May 24, 2008, 16:23
Hey Omar,

I tried uploading just the first four main pages of the folder (prior to just a fully upload of everything and then testing) after I uploaded the admin, install, etc. pages I received a blank screen on my homepage of my site.

Tried with FTP and with cPanel, both gave blank pages.

Went back to the my original install file, and re-uploaded the 4 pages I overwrote...site works again.

So my uploading is fine data transfer is fine, is there a chance the pages are bugged?

Title: Blank pages after upload OR when try to access admin area
Post by: Omar on May 25, 2008, 10:03
No chance for such a bug. You may not upload all files required by the new php form the root. So you put the new install.php that now call another file that you need to upload too, but you don't have that so the program can't get that and get a bit broken. You should make sure you upload all the files as described in the Update thread.

In John case for example, even if he uploaded Binary, for some reason he only had 6 files in /common/ folder though normally there are about 10 .php files.

Hrmm nope, still blank.

Uploaded all the files step by step as per the video using FlashFXP with Binary on.

Now once again the site is blank, and restoring it to the previous version will be too complicated.

Any ideas?!!

Post by: HT_Parker on June 19, 2008, 13:05
Omar,

I setup a new store using the latest update.
Everything worked find thru setup of perference then I got 2 problems.

1. The popup for the plugin setup only had the header text and none of the plugin setup information.

2. I closed the plugin setup page and setup a catogory. After closing that I got the dreaded Blank page for everything.

And ideas?

I'm emailing the site details

Hi Omar,

I've just emailed you ftp details for my site. I updated and now I'm getting a blank admin page. It was working before.

I followed the instructions here: http://halfagain.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2194 and my client was set for binary upload.

I'm hoping that you can fix it for me.

Hi Omar,

Thank you for pointing out that the admin url is /admin.php and not /admin

This was a silly mistake on my part but one that others might repeat by accident so I'm hoping that this post might give people anpther clue why they might be getting a blank page.

hey Omar,

with regards to my http://www.mybassfishingstore.com, after I followed the instructions, I entered password and get a blank page. I have read through this forum to see how others have fixed their problems. They seem to have had the same problems I'm having. THE BLANK PAGE!

Can I PM you my ftp info?? Perhaps you can have a look at mine.

Thanks!

You sure all was uploaded in Binary mode? If so, create an empty text file in the store root named debug.txt then load your domain again. You will see some error messages. Let me know when that shows on the site so i can see myself. That should give us some hints of what cause the issue.

I'm thinking maybe the version I have is already outdated.

Thanks!

Title: After 8 stores up, does this make me "seasoned"??
Post by: flashdiva on October 09, 2008, 20:09
The dreaded white page.

I posted elsewhere today, that I am ATTEMPTING to install my 9th store.

Perhaps this has something to do with my new host?

I can successfully install the OLD SS version, from about late July. All is swell.

Then, I go to do the update, which I've done numerous times on previous 8 stores. I update everything according to the rules.

And it all comes up blank. Or, I get the 'template not found' message.

I've installed this more than half a dozen times today. I then went to a subdomain, because the site I am trying to install on, has been the site of the script for my bookstore, for 8 years. I figured maybe the scripts were conflicting. But no, even on the subdomain, I am getting the same stuff.

For the life of me.... I was able to install and update the Simple template on my primary 1WebDiva.com. But nothing I've done today is allowing me to update. Ergo, I cannot use the Simple template.

Any suggestions?

I feel and have felt all along that the BASE install for the script needs to be a whole lot better. I don't know at this point, what exactly I am doing/not doing for this new install. I have 8 successful stores going. But... I have yet to have a successful install on the NEW core script. It just comes up WHITE. No success at all.

I now have the OLD core up once more. See at: http://wbstore.1wbta.com/ (http://wbstore.1wbta.com/). But I have tried twice, to update the script, and it reverts to white page.

Title: the Common folder cannot be deleted
Post by: flashdiva on October 09, 2008, 21:26
Another interesting observation. When you 'kill' the subdomain, it won't totally be deleted. The folder is still there, because the COMMON folder is still there. With settings in it. And you cannot delete via FTP, and you cannot delete via Cpanel.

Okay, what?

Title: success for new install
Post by: flashdiva on October 09, 2008, 21:45
I reviewed the update video, once more. And decided that this was not the solution.

I do think that either the core script or the 'new templates' had/have bugs.

I went and downloaded the core script, the plugins, and the new templates. All except the Clickbank plugin have new dates on them, of 10/5/08. Four days ago.

I installed and everything came up beautifully. I added the Simple template and that too, came up great.

The prior installs had bugs. When will someone admit that? And my question now is this.... WHY, unless I've missed something, are you not announcing to this membership when new install files are added? You need to have a version chart, like everyone in the world has one, including the GPL sites.

You could certainly cut down on this grief simply by posting a Version section and keeping us updated.

And when bugs are located and "mini patches" are available, those also should go in the Version chart. How on earth do you expect us to keep up with this?

Yes, I am angry. I feel that for the money spent, and the HOURS some of us have put into this.... hours that, many times, comes down to NOT user error but YOUR error or lack of posting updates.... I feel this is really wrong. Most of us are buyers of MANY products, and I swear, we don't go through what has happened here.

I am back to looking for new solutions. You need to get your act together. I have spent some 5 hours ++ on this, today. And when it came down to HOPING and second-guessing that a brand new clean install of newly-downloaded scripts... might fix some things, I was right. And the install happened AS IT SHOULD... in about 10 minutes or less.

The initial script was good. Most everything about the 'update' back in July was a trip through hell. And now it appears that the 10/05/08 update is good, too. Now to get in and work it, to see if problems come up.

Jeez.

I said this countless times: Check the Update thread in the forum before any update and follow those rules, NOT the video. A videos is updated slower and harder then a thread but i always edit first post in the update thread so everybody can see any changes and latest update rules.
