I think for the most part it isn't a good idea to make your blog links public, especially if there is anything about them that could be considered "spam!"

Stick to the private link-trading!

Well, people are notoriously private with their BH site information, for good reason. There are self-appointed spam-killers out there that will report your sites to Adsense if they find them.

"When you're skirting the edges, it's best to stay in the shadows!"

Something private might be OK.  I think there is also a feeling that when building blogs, this isn't really necessary, since your blogs are there to develop links already. This kind of strategy is great for people building static sites that don't have a wide-spread presense on the web. Article Undergraound has a "presentation" system in place. All of their members get to post site links and snippets to a series of blog farms that they have set up. So when you build a new article site, you get some back-links fast on blogs that are ranking pretty well.

Once a person has a decent web presence, just putting links on sites gets them spidered quickly. I use Linktator on many sites (that are spidered daily) to rotate links to new sites. So it never takes me more than a day to get spidered if I take the effort to do it. I don't bother doing this with blogs, because the spiders come fast enough anyway!
