As we all know, some hosts are better then others. Unfortunately sometime we are "lucky" enough to go with the bad ones (bad support, slow servers, high restrictions, etc). So i am starting this thread, similar to the one i made for Blogsolution. Please only post simple messages, like "I use XXXX and works great", "I used YYYY and didn't worked because...." (if you know why). Keep it simple so people can find fast useful info.

From my experience, hosts like slhost.com, resellerzoom.com, hostgator.com works GOOD. Although hostgator added some limit (only 80.000 pages can be hosted at same time) it will be pretty hard to hit that limit with a normal store.

It would be good to AVOID godaddy (some have good experiences, some not, looks like their server are not equally created), yahoo host, bravenet host (no cronjobs allowed last time i had something to fix there)

Edit: Just read a user review on his blog where he mentioned 1and1.com as a "no go" too. Looks like they do not have Zend Optimizer installed, it takes a time before they agree to add it (although i have no idea why some hosts are not having that by default, is SO common) and seems the way you setup a cronjob there is pretty complicated since they use some custom admin panel.

OK, I tried Yahoo because of their sitebuilder software, but I outgrew it as soon as I got dreamweaver and wanted to create a series of domains.

Now I use hostmonster.com and it has been very good, fast, and effective. You get a flat price for a ton of storage and bandwidth. Subdomains are just $10/year for up to a 100 of them. There's a full featured cpanel with a good selection of utilities such as fantastico, wordpress setup, etc.

The support team is very knowledgable, effective, and efficient. I've been very satisfied. I have 10 domains running there.

Twostep you said, "Now I use hostmonster.com and it has been very good, fast, and effective". Are you using it with the StoreStacker without any problems? I have an account with hostmonster and would like to install it there, please advise. thanks

Sorry that I missed your question earlier. Yes, SS works great there. I also have BlogSolution running on two subdomains. And regular sites running in other subdomains. All in the same account for flat rate price.

LOVE Hostmonster - no problems whatsoever, great support people!

BAD - ipower.com - problem after problem, support not very knowledgeable - okay for regular websites, don't recommend for StoreStacker

Avoid DreamHost at all costs.  Their servers are so oversubscribed my SS's PHP pages would frequently timeout resulting in 404 errors.  Moved to another host and all is well.

So far, I am very pleased with mochahost.com. I haven't had to deal with customer service because I've been able to solve any problems myself, but their hosting works great with SS.

Just want to clarify : StoreStacker and 1and1 hosting work fine.

Here is a post I wrote with instructions on installing Zend Optimizer on 1and1 shared hosting accounts. http://labmgroup.com/2009/08/installing-zend-on-1and1-shared-hosting/
